Stage and Cinema's Lawrence Bommer seemed to enjoy the show, and referenced the recent weather in Chicago in his comparison of Nick Lake to being "as cold as a polar vortex". Chicago Theater Beat's Scotty Zacher gave one of my <insert sarcasm> favorite type of reviews (nothing really great, but nothing awful either so here's 2.5 stars). But most special of all, Chicago's most-loved pre-teen theatre critic, Ada Grey gives uncanny insight into how this 50+ year old play about a historical woman from 500+ years ago is still relevant to the world (and especially women & ideas of feminism!) TODAY. Truly, from the mouth's of babes!
The art of the theatrical critique is a tough nut to crack & I appreciate those who dedicate their talents to it. I know many actors who live & die by reviews. I know some who ignore them completely whenever possible. Maybe it's the marketing hat I often wear for my day job, or just my natural pragmatic demeanor (yeah, I just said that!), but to me, a review of a production I am in as a marketing opportunity. If they loved it - post it everywhere! If they hated it - post it everywhere! And then invite people to come and experience the show for themselves so they can determine if they agree or not.
